He has served as Chairman of the Davie County Board of Commissioners, Chairman of the Davie County Hospital Board of Trustee, and Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party’s Fifth Congressional District. He ran for Governor in 2004 and for the North Carolina Court of Appeals in 2008. Dan served in the NC State Senate from 2017 - 2018. Dan authored A Million Steps and has received honors such as the 2004 North Carolina Hospital Association Trustee Service Award, the 2004 Francis W. Slate Community Service Award, and ARC Member of the Year in Davie County in 2002.
